Gynecology

Gynecological surgery describes procedures performed on any part of a woman’s reproductive system, including the vulva, vagina, cervix, uterus, fallopian tubes, and ovaries. Gynecologic surgery can also involve the urinary tract and bladder.

We provide a comprehensive list of gynecologic surgeries for your convenience. Our outpatient surgical center serves patients in and around Beverly Hills, California. Stop in or call today to discuss any of the following women healthcare procedures.

Stress Incontinence Surgery

Stress urinary incontinence (SUI) is characterized by leakage of urine after exercising or when laughing, sneezing, or coughing. The condition is common in women.

SUI is caused by a disorder of the pelvic floor. Pelvic floor disorders occur when the muscles and tissues that support the female reproductive organs become damaged. The pelvic floor is responsible for supporting the urethra, uterus, bladder, and rectum. When that tissue becomes damaged through childbirth, pregnancy, or aging, the sphincter muscle that controls the urethra becomes weaker. This leads to incontinence at the most inopportune moments.

Stress incontinence surgery fixes the problem entirely, giving you more control where it counts.

Cystocele Repair

Otherwise referred to as anterior colporrhaphy, this procedure is aimed at repairing the wall that exists between the vagina and bladder. For some women, the wall swells, creating a bulging vagina. This can not only cause discomfort, but it can also cause difficulty when emptying the bladder.

Cystocele repair alleviates pain and helps with bladder leakage, giving you more control over your urinary and urethral systems.

During the procedure, your gynecological surgeon will create a tiny vaginal incision, whereby a hole will be made in the layer between the vagina and bladder. That opening is then reinforced with strong sutures, fortifying the area. The stitches will dissolve on their own within a few months.

Recovery for cystocele repair surgery takes around two to three weeks. You may feel discomfort around the treatment area, which can be alleviated with prescribed pain medication. Normal activity is typically resumed within a few hours of the cystocele repair procedure, though you should refrain from sex for at least six weeks post-op. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled four to six weeks after your surgery before you leave the hospital.

Vaginal Rejuvenation

Vaginal rejuvenation describes a series of surgeries aimed at improving the size, shape, and function of the vaginal area. The procedures can restore the soft tissue structures that have become weaker as a product of aging. Vaginal rejuvenation is beneficial for women who suffer from embarrassment or discomfort (emotionally or physically) due to redundant vaginal tissue.

Vaginal rejuvenation surgeries can involve the clitoral hood, labia majoraplasty, labiaplasty, monsplasty, and vaginoplasty.

Clitoral hood reduction is a type of aesthetic genital cosmetic surgery that enhances the appearance of the clitoral hood and reduces discomfort. Excess tissue along the clitoral hood can create extra folds that tend to bulge when the labia minora are reduced. This surgery removes the excess tissue to balance the appearance of the female genitalia.

Labia majoraplasty is aimed at reducing and tightening the labia majora to alleviate distress and prevent discomfort during cycling and other activities.

Labiaplasty decreases the size of the labia minora so that it is flush with the labia majora.

Monsplasty helps women who experience a bulge of excess skin and fat on the mons, which can make wearing bathing suits and tight pants uncomfortable.

Vaginoplasty is a male-to-female surgical procedure that is designed to create a vagina. The penis, testicles, and scrotum are first removed. The surgeon then rearranges the current tissue in the genital area until a vaginal canal and external genitalia are formed. The vaginal canal is created using a combination of the skin that exists around the existing penis along with some of the scrotal skin. In some cases, an additional skin graft from the thigh or abdomen will be required to develop a full vaginal canal.

Bladder Lift

Another way to treat stress incontinence is with a bladder lift, also referred to as a bladder neck suspension. The bladder suspension involves the repositioning of a sagging bladder. Age, childbirth, and hormonal changes caused by menopause can lead to muscle loss along the pelvic wall. This can cause the bladder to sag, which makes it difficult to control your urine.

Bladder lift surgery strengthens the pelvic wall and repositions the bladder to alleviate pain, discomfort, and a lack of urinary control.
